    For understanding the transmission of the data link layer let’s take an example, if the A device needs to communicate with the B device, a communication link and a series of devices are required. If the entire communication line does not have an error control mechanism, then only the data sent by A will be sent by B. If there is an error control mechanism on the communication line, the data sent from A to B will be detected as an error at the device closest to A, and A needs to be sent again, and the correct data frame can be sent first. If it is sent to the B side, then the entire line can save resources, which is the error control method of the data layer.

    The error control of the data link layer is mainly aimed at bit errors on the link. There are mainly two control methods, which are divided into error detection coding and error correction coding. Error detection coding includes parity and cyclic redundancy CRC, while error correction coding includes Hamming code.

    The coding and modulation of the link layer and the physical layer are different. The physical layer is for a single bit to solve the problem of bit synchronization in the transmission process, such as Manchester coding. The coding of the data link layer is aimed at a set of bit data, and it realizes the error generation control of a set of binary bit data in the transmission process through the technology of redundancy code.
