    Classification of Wireless Networks [Explained]

    Post time: Sep-02-2022

There are many concepts and protocols involved in wireless networks. In order to give everyone a better idea, I will explain the classification.

    1. According to different network coverage, wireless networks can be divided into:
“WWAN” stands for “wireless wide area network.
”WLAN” stands for Wireless Local Area Network.
“WMAN” stands for Wireless Metropolitan Area Network.
“WPAN” stands for wireless personal area network.

    Classification of wireless networks

The relationship is shown in the following figure:

A wireless local area network (WLAN) is a network system that uses wireless communication technology to connect different computer devices to form a network system that can communicate with each other, transmit data, and share resources. The IEEE 802.11 standard for wireless local area networks lets people connect wirelessly to a local area network using the 2.4GHz or 5GHz radio frequency band in the ISM band, which may not be authorized.
Features: It supports multi-device users, has high flexibility and mobility, and is not limited by the wired environment.
Application range: very wide, such as enterprises, hospitals, shops, factories, schools and families.

The primary function of this Wireless Metropolitan Area Network is to connect to the backbone and provide coverage to users. For example, wideband WMAN, represented by IEEE 802.16 series standards, is mainly used for local multipoint connections. The wireless metropolitan area network technology is also called “WiMAX Technology” in the market. The Ministry of information industry plans two frequency bands of 3.5 GHz (3400-3430mhz, 3500-3530mhz) and 5.8 GHz (5725-5850mhz) as the dedicated frequency bands for wireless access to metropolitan area networks.

A wireless wide area network (WWAN) is a communication method that uses wireless networks to connect local area networks (LANs) over extremely dispersed physical distances. It is mainly used by operators for wireless coverage. The adopted standard is IEEE802.20.
The above is the knowledge explanation of the “classification of wireless networks” brought by Shenzhen HDV Phoelectron Technology Co., Ltd.  hope this article can help you to increase your knowledge.
