    Transmitting end optical power: Directly connect the light-emitting port of the optical module and test the optical power value of the optical module at a short distance.

    Receiving sensitivity: By connecting the light-emitting port and the light-receiving port with a digital adjustable attenuator, the minimum receiving optical power is measured, and this value is the receiving sensitivity.

    The operation steps are as follows:

    1) It is necessary to confirm the type of optical fiber, interface type and the usage combination of the central wavelength of the optical module.

    2) Determination of the interface type for optical power (divided into LC, SC, and FC);

    3) Select the corresponding patch cord based on the above optical module, optical power meter interface type, and the type of optical fiber used in combination with the optical module.

    4) Ensure that the switch equipment is powered on and that the switch interface is normal and in the admin up state;

    5) Use an optical power meter, turn it on, and adjust the detection wavelength to be consistent with the central wavelength of the optical module.

    6) Insert the optical module to be measured (the gold finger part) into the switch interface, and connect the optical module’s transmitting port to the optical power meter adapter interface with a patch cord. In this way, the optical power value can be read through the optical power meter.

    Obtain the transmitted optical power value of the optical module using an optical power meter, taking the 10GBASE-LR SFP+ optical module as an example. The test steps are as follows:

    First, insert the 10GBASE-LR SFP+ optical module into the SFP+ port of the 10G switch;

    Then, the optical module is connected to the optical power meter using the LC-FC optical fiber patch cord;

    Finally, press the power button to turn on the optical power. Press the “λ” key to modulate the band of the 10GBASE-LR SFP+ optical module (that is, modulate the band at 1310nm). The value may change during the test. The test is completed when the value is stationary. At this time, the optical power displayed on the screen is the transmitted optical power of this optical module. Note: The transmitted optical power obtained from short-distance testing is equivalent to the received optical power at the opposite end.
